(...) Die Ausstellung, die im Oktober bei der Galerie Ropac in Paris eröffnet, wird dagegen ein Schlaglicht auf seine Zeit in New York als junger Mensch, der auf eine bessere Zukunft hoffte, der mit Streetwear und Hip-Hop seine Identität aufbaute, der in der Schlange stand, um die richtigen Sneaker zu kaufen, und Tupacs Lyrics als Gedichte über sein eigenes Leben aufsog. (...)

Dass er diese Ausstellung gerade in Paris zeigt will, ist kein Zufall. Denn in seiner Teenagerszeit sah er, wie sich die Allianz von Hip-Hop und Mode formte. (...)

(...) On the other hand, the exhibition set to open in October at Ropac gallery in Paris will shed light on a later period in Barrington's life, focusing on his time in New York as a young person who hoped for a better future. It will explore how he built his identity through streetwear and hip-hop, stood in line to buy the right sneakers, and absorbed Tupac's lyrics as poems about his own life. "In hip-hop, in streetwear, it's about building self-confidence, no matter what you've been through. For me, it's like the opening scene of 'Breakfast at Tiffany's.' Audrey Hepburn plays this woman who has to sell herself for money at night but exudes such elegance and beauty during the day. It's about aspiring to something. I see myself in that. It's about the promise that New York makes to you." His choice to show this exhibition in Paris is no coincidence. For during his teenage years, he saw the alliance between hip-hop and fashion take shape. (...)
